The Southern Pride is a feature that reflects the determination and initiative of the personality of the southern people. It’s a reflection of a time when gallantry’s importance was taken to its ultimate consequences. Honor was even more important than life. There’s a line in the famous film Gone with the wind (1939) that express clearly that complex feeling:
Why? Maybe it’s because I’ve always had a weakness for lost causes, once they’re really lost. Or maybe, maybe I’m ashamed of myself. Who knows? Rhett Butler
That is the main feature we have tried to portray in the personality of this South gentleman. The character represented by this miniature shows some weariness in his eyes, elegance and a stoical pose with his head raised.
Pride in short.
